Charity Day at Callington CC Report

29th August 2019 Posted in Latest and League by Michael Weeks

Callington CC report an extremely successful day for our Charity Cricket Event held last Sunday, August 25th at Moores Park, featuring our current 1st X1 against Callington Over 40s and 50s which included blasts from the past Andrew Snowdon, Colin Kitt, Andy Hocking, Simon Hunt, Hugh Rogers and Jamie Hatch.
Cornwall County Manager Godfrey Furse, another former Callington old boy, was a non playing spectator. Two T20 matches were played, with the current 1st X1 running out winners, but the first match in particular was close with the 1st X1 chasing down 138 to win by one wicket.
Apart from the fun of the cricket, watched by a huge crowd in glorious sunshine, the raffle raised £344.00 to assist Club Under 12s County players JJ Brenton and Ben Alford raise funds towards their County Tour of South Africa in the Winter.
Chairman Bill’s Barbecue, assisted by Player Contributions also raised £250.00 for St Luke’s Hospice and £250.00 for the Children’s Hospice South West.
Event organiser Tony Farrant had been talking about what we were doing to Neil Tregarthen the day before when we played Penzance CC in the Premier Division, and Mr Tregarthen and Penzance CC have subsequently offered to double the money going to the 2 Hospices.
We are very grateful to Neil and Penzance CC for this wonderful gesture as St Luke’s Hospice in particular is extremely important to a family closely associated with our Club.
Thank you to everyone who took part and turned up to make the day such a success especially Horizon Home Improvements for sponsoring the event and supplying the coloured kit..
