CSCA Presentation Evening
CSCA Presentation Evening Report 2016
Cornwall Schools’ Cricket Association Secretary Malcolm Broad MBE reported on a ‘great year’ at the annual presentation evening. The event was held for the first time at the Atlantic Hotel, Newquay. The Under 13, 15 and 17 Girls teams all won their ECB Groups or competitions while the Under 17 boys reached a national final. There were many outstanding performances in a year when over 125 county matches were completed – the largest ever programme.
The Chief Guest was the Somerset County Cricket Club batsman James Hildreth, who has been awarded a testimonial in 2017. After making the presentations he gave a question and answer session. He reflected on the disappointment of Somerset having to sit watch Middlesex snatch the Specsavers County Championship from the cider county on the final afternoon of the season. His career highlight – winning the T20 competition in 2005, when he hit the winning runs against Lancashire in the final at the Oval.
The Ted Collins Memorial Cup for the outstanding young cricketer in 2016 was awarded to Tommy Sturgess. He performed well in the ECB Under 17 County Championship and has recently been signed by Surrey.
Emily Edgcombe has been selected for the Girls England Academy and the Western Storm Development squad.
Regional Awards were presented to Lewis Goldsworthy and Sam Wyatt who both played for the South and West in the Under 15 Bunbury Festival. Earlier in the year Sam scored more runs than any previous player on a Caribbean tour. Meanwhile Lewis has recently signed for the Somerset Academy, and been selected for the England Under 16 Academy team to tour Sri Lanka in March.
The Jonathan Harris Shield for the highest innings against a County team in 2016 went to Ross Leathley for his 178 against the Isle of Wight.
The One & All Shield for best bowling performance of the year went to Adam Snowdon for his 6-21 against Leicestershire in the Kings College Festival.
