All rounder Lewis Goldsworthy is already part of the newly created PSPP and has been travelling up to Somerset headquarters regularly to train with the Academy cricketers.

However for left arm spinner Jacob MacDonald from Camborne and tall left arm seamer Freddy Stevenson from Bude, who are both part of the Cornwall Under 13 squad it was a brand new experience.

Andrew Jones the acting Director of Development  for Cornwall Cricket and Under 13s manager, travelled with the boys alongside Cornwall Under 13s coach James Long.  Andrew said: “The link that we are developing with Somerset is going really well and it is something that some of us have wanted for a long time and to see it happening so quickly is really good.

“To see some of our youngsters here working in such a quality coaching environment is a real plus for us and we are over the moon about it and long may it continue.

“Somerset contacted us and asked if we had any left armers so I sent up some footage of the two boys here today, one spinner and the other a seamer and on the strength of that they invited them to come up here today and have a session so they could see for themselves.

The Cornwall Director of Development added: “It’s great to think that Somerset are interested and invited them up here today to work alongside their elite Academy group, to give them an audience and allow them to show what they can do.”

Jason Kerr, who has spearheaded the link between the two clubs in his role at Somerset said: “It was fantastic to see young Cornish cricketers integrated with the PSPP today, I'm sure that they had a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and it won't be long before they are welcomed back again.”
